The Ministry of Sport and Recreation has officially inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 15th Africa Arm Wrestling Championship, branded “Accra 2026.” The ceremony took place at the Ministry’s conference room in Accra.
The event was presided over by Kofi Adams, Minister for Sport and Recreation, who charged the committee to deliver a successful and memorable continental championship.
Championship Beyond Competition
Speaking at the inauguration, Hon. Adams highlighted the broader impact of the championship, stressing unity and recognition through sport.
“This championship is more than just about strength and competition; it’s about bringing nations together and celebrating our diversity through sport. Every sport deserves a pathway to success, and every athlete deserves recognition.”
He also commended the steady growth of arm wrestling in Ghana, noting the government’s commitment to structured development and sports excellence.
Confidence in Accra’s Hosting Ability
President of the Ghana Arm Wrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, expressed confidence in Accra’s readiness to host a world-class event.
“We aim to showcase Africa’s talent and hospitality. The dedicated professionals and sports enthusiasts on the local organizing committee will work tirelessly to deliver an event that will be remembered for years to come,” he said.
LOC Takes Oath, Sets Priorities
The seven-member LOC, selected for their expertise and dedication, took oaths of service and pledged to oversee the seamless planning, organization, and execution of the championship.
Chairperson of the committee, Maame Afua Houageto, who represents the Ghana Tourism Authority, outlined the team’s priorities.
“Our focus will be on detailed planning, engaging the community, and promoting African strength and resilience through arm wrestling.”
