NSS Ghost Names Scandal: Attorney General Reveals MP Was Paid to Cover Up Fraud

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has made shocking revelations regarding the ghost names scandal at the National Service Scheme (NSS), alleging that top officials, including the CEO, paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament (MP) to suppress the story and defend them.

Evidence of Corruption Uncovered

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Dr. Ayine disclosed that investigators have traced financial transactions linking high-ranking NSS officials to private vendors and scheme staff involved in the fraudulent activity.

“Indeed, we now have evidence of payments that were made into the accounts of the top executives of the National Service by vendors, private vendors, and staff of the scheme,” he stated.

Bribery Allegations Against an MP

Dr. Ayine further alleged that in November 2024, the NSS CEO and other officials paid a sitting MP to prevent the scandal from making headlines.

“The CEO of the National Service Scheme and others paid a Ghanaian MP to kill the story in the media and to defend them. Now, this is a developing story, and more of it will come out very soon,” he revealed.

A Massive Payroll Fraud Scheme

The ghost names scandal was uncovered through a nationwide audit, which exposed thousands of fictitious names fraudulently added to the NSS payroll. The scheme allowed corrupt officials to siphon funds meant for legitimate National Service personnel, implicating a network of district directors and payroll administrators.

While the Attorney General did not disclose the identity of the MP allegedly involved, his statement signals that further revelations and potential prosecutions are on the horizon.
