Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has taken a swipe at the tax reforms introduced by the Mahama administration, labeling them as politically driven and ineffective in delivering meaningful relief to Ghanaians.
Addressing Parliament on March 26, 2025, Afenyo-Markin argued that the reforms merely create an illusion of benefit while, in reality, placing a heavier financial strain on both businesses and individuals.
“The NDC government’s tax reforms are purely political—giving with one hand while taking even more with the other—offering no genuine relief to the private sector or ordinary Ghanaians,” he asserted.
In response, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson defended the 2025 budget, describing it as a people-centered plan aimed at tackling the pressing concerns of citizens.
Speaking in Parliament on March 25, Dr. Forson assured that the government remains committed to ensuring the budget’s successful implementation.
“This budget reflects our resolve to put the people first, and we will see it through to ensure the benefits reach every Ghanaian,” he emphasized.
He further stressed that the budget goes beyond economic projections, serving as a strategic roadmap to address the real challenges facing the country.
“This is not just a set of numbers—it is a comprehensive plan crafted in response to the concerns of Ghanaians. We have listened, and we are taking action with practical solutions,” he added.
