The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) of Ghana has opened an investigation into McDan Group over allegations of involvement in money laundering activities. As part of the probe, the agency has formally requested extensive financial documentation from the company, covering transactions made between January 2020 and December 2024.
A confidential letter, dated April 22, 2025, and addressed to the Managing Director of McDan Group, disclosed that the FIC had gathered intelligence suggesting that the company engaged in substantial financial dealings with various entities during the specified timeframe. The investigation is being conducted under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).
Relying on the powers granted under Sections 36 and 37 of the Act, the FIC has directed McDan Group to furnish detailed records of its financial activities. These include documentation on electronic fund transfers, copies of cheques issued to external parties, and information on the financial institutions utilized during the five-year period in question.
The company has been given a seven-day deadline to comply with the directive, as stipulated under Section 37(4) of the legislation.
This inquiry forms part of the FIC’s broader strategy to clamp down on financial crimes within Ghana’s corporate sector. Over recent months, the Centre has heightened its scrutiny of companies across various industries as it intensifies efforts to enforce compliance and detect suspicious financial practices.
At the time of reporting, neither McDan Group nor its legal counsel had issued any public statement regarding the investigation. However, given the group’s influential presence in logistics, aviation, and related sectors, the case is likely to remain in the public spotlight as developments unfold.
