DVLA CEO Shocked by Inherited Debt, Orders System Audit

Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has expressed deep shock over the massive debt inherited from his predecessor, Agyemang Busia.

Speaking in an interview on TV3, Kotey admitted that he did not anticipate such a heavy financial burden upon assuming office.

“The legacy debts—I never expected anything like that, but here I am faced with it. When you check our operations, every service has some financial input, so for me to inherit this debt, it came as a shock,” he stated.

Breaking down the figures, Kotey revealed that the cedi account is weighed down by nearly GHC300 million, while the dollar account holds an alarming $151 million in debt.

“Let me be very specific with you—our cedi account debt is close to GHC300 million, and our dollar account debt stands at nearly $151 million,” he emphasized.

In response, the DVLA boss has called for a system audit to fully assess the situation before making any major financial decisions.

“We are conducting a system audit. Until that is complete, I can’t rush into conclusions. Once we have clarity, we will determine the next steps,” he assured.

As the audit unfolds, all eyes are on the DVLA to see how the new leadership navigates this financial crisis.
