Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, securing the party’s flagbearer position for the 2028 general elections.
According to official results released by the Electoral Commission after polls closed on January 31, 2026, Dr Bawumia polled 110,645 votes, representing 56.48% of the total votes cast.

In total, over 211,000 delegates cast their ballots across more than 300 polling centres nationwide, making the primaries one of the most keenly contested internal elections in the party’s history.
