Attorney-General Alleges Former Signals Bureau Chief May Have Purchased Foreign Citizenship

Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine has raised suspicions that Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, may have acquired foreign citizenship using his amassed wealth.

Speaking on the ongoing investigations, Dr. Ayine revealed that Adu Boahene currently holds two service passports, while the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is probing intelligence that he also possesses a foreign passport.

“The massive wealth he has accumulated—it is possible he has purchased another citizenship. His wife’s British passport is already in EOCO’s possession,” Dr. Ayine stated.

EOCO’s Investigation and Arrest

Adu Boahene was apprehended by EOCO officials on Thursday, March 20, 2025, upon his return to Ghana from London Heathrow. He arrived on a British Airways flight at approximately 8:30 PM before being taken into custody.

Authorities are actively investigating the source of his wealth and the possibility of undisclosed foreign ties. The case has sparked discussions on high-ranking officials potentially leveraging their positions for financial gain and seeking alternative citizenships to evade scrutiny.

EOCO is expected to release further details as the probe unfolds, with Adu Boahene likely to face intense legal scrutiny in the coming weeks.
